M-Nearelgla of the Stomach Produce Heart Failure, From Eugene Register. Mrs Eliiabetb Conser died very sud denly at her home, corner of Sixth and Lawrenoe streets, at 5:30 o'olook last Saturday evening; 0 arise ot death, neu ralgia of the heart, caused by old age and stomach tronble. Mra. Elizabeth Felix Conser waa born in Indiana, April 13, 1825, and was therefore nearly 73 years of age at the time of her death. She oroesed the plains with the emi grant train of 1844; spent the winter in the Spokane oountry with the family ot the sainted missionary, Rev. J. H Spaulding. While crossing the plains she met and formed the ao quatntanoe of one ot the members of that train, Mr. Norris Humphrey. This acquaintance ripened into more than friendship. Mr. Humphrey looated a donation land olaim near Jefferson in '44, aud in the sprit) g ot '45 he sought the home of Rev. Mr. Spaulding where his fiancee was residing. They were united io marriage by Mr. Spaulding and immediately returned to Mr. Hum phrey's home near Jefferson. In '49 Mr Humphrey went to the California gold fields. Returning a year later be con ducted a store in Jefferson for two years and then with bis family moved to Eugene, where be lived till the time ot bis death, wbiob ooourred in Feb., 1879. It May 1881 Mrs. Humphrey and Mr, Jacob Conser were married. Mr. Conser was a pioneer of 1848 ; served in the ter ritorial legislature in 1849 and in several subsequent terms. He died Marob 20, 1893. Sinoe Mr. Conser's death Mrs. Conser has remained at her home in Eugene, enjoying the company of her niece or some other relative, and spending mnoh of her time with ber life long friend, Mrs. Wesley Shannon. Last Thursday Mrs. Conser began feel ing ill, and that night a dootor was called. She seemed to suffer with a slight stomaoh trouble but was thought to be recovering from the attack. Oo Friday and Saturday she was able to re oeive oalla from ber friends and gave evidenoe of improvement. About 5:30 o'olock Saturday afternoon she suddenly 00m plained of nausea, and after a slight vomiting spell, she fell back 00 a pillow gasping for breath. A pbysican and Mrs. Shannon were hastily summoned, but long before tbey arrived, Mrs. Con ser had quietly and peacefully breathed ber laet. Mrs. Conser leaves a sister, Mrs. Sarah Perkins, aged 83 years, residing at North Yamhill, and a nieoe, Mrs. Msry Warren of Gosheo, Lane county, besides two brothers aud one sister in Indiana. She also leaves the fallowing stepchildren: Sbaonon Conser, of Portland; John and Henry Conser, of Albany; George Con ser, of Heppner; Hope Conser, Jefferson; Louis Conser, of Portland; Mra. Pbcebe Watson, ot Washington; and Mrs. R. O- Thomas, of Turner. A large number of ber relatives, be- ill es a host of friends attended the fun eral, whiob waa held at the family resi dence at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, after wbloh the remains were interred in tbe A. F. k A. M. cemetery, Rev. R. 0. Brooks, of the first Congregational oburoh, officiating. Thus has passed to her fioal reward another faithful, kind hearted, highly esteemed pioneer, whose life was con stantly devoted to labors of obarity snd ove. All who knew Mrs. Conser recog nized in her life tbe highest and noblest ot principles vouchsafed unto manklod. When ber friends rejoioed, she, too, was glad; wheo sorrows came, ber words ot sympathy and sots ot kindness were ever cherished. Liberal, kind-hearted and generous, she accomplished ma 00 good during her lifetime, and ber friends and neighbors suffer an Irreparable loss by her sudden death. But the lessons ot kindnsss, patienoe, obarity and love so forolbly taught by tbis noble lady, will long live in the hearts and lives of those with whom she came In oontaot Though dead, she yet spesketh.
